While driving home from work yesterday, I felt like listening to some fast paced music to cool my nerves after a long day at work, then I tuned in to cool-fm, and Kayla and Freeze were on radio talking about the best place to eat Asun (diced goat meat -stir fry) in Lagos, a lot of people called into the show, to recommend their favourite Asun joint in town, and I listened on for no particular reason at all, as that wasn't the fast paced music i needed to take me through the long traffic.
One thing stuck with me while listening to that show, and that is the fact that lagosians like to eat good food anywhere and everywhere, it really doesn't have to be an exotic place, as long as you are ready to cater to their taste bud, they will always return for more.
This brings us to today's topic, why do we always go back to our favourite restaurant? For me apart from the the taste and presentation of the food or the ambience of the restaurant, the major thing that makes me return to a restaurant aside hunger pangs is the customer service.
I love to be treated like royalty when I go dinning, The kind of reception i get from the gate of the restaurant and the main entrance always leaves a lasting impression on me. Its just unfortunate that in Lagos, the average eateries and the local eateries pay little or no attention to this. Most eateries are particular about serving food and not providing service and this has left a big dent in the eatery business in Lagos as most of them are closing down by the second.
One sure way to get diners to return to your restaurant is by improving on your customer service. I mean there are a thousand and one other places that people can go to for the kind of food on your menu, and for that reason, you need to be on top of your customer service game. The friendly and courteous attitude of your staff from the gate down to the cook should be impeccable. At high brow restaurants, the chef should be available upon diner's request and should always wear a bright smile. Your waiters should be as pleasant as possible and look clean from head to toe, this applies to local and international restaurant.
It is important for those in the hospitality business to know that a good customer service creates a bond between a diner and the restaurant. Even if the food takes an hour before it is ready, diners will always return for more, if the service is superb.
Tell us about your best restaurant and why you always return there for more, you can also tell us about your worst dinning experience too... I will be waiting to read your comments.

My best restaurant anytime is a Chinese Restaurant. Why, because, right from the packing lots, you are met with courteous Security man, shown to your seat by a well groomed portal, served by a polite waiter, etc. Even after your meal, you are being escorted back to the car. Talking about meal, very savoury. Our local restaurants have nothing to offer. Its just a fact of eating something when not at home. They are not worth going back to because there is nothing like customer serrvice care. Tnx Abi.
