Nigerian Airline Review- My Medview Airline Experience

By now you already know that we don't have a single national carrier, our famous Nigerian Airways and Virgin Nigeria are no more, we are left with the privately owned airlines that are managing to survive function within the Nigerian Aviation Industry.

Every single airline operating in this country has one big problem or the other, some have problems of regular delays, some have problems of being overbooked, some have problems of misplacing people's luggage, some have history of plane crash, some even have problems such as leakages in the aircraft, while for so many of them, one constant burden they share is doing business in the  Nigerian terrain, which is extremely harsh at this time for obvious economic  reasons we have discussed on this blog a couple of times.

Today, I'll be sharing my experience on Medview Airlines with you all. I know we all have our airline stories, and we have heard the worst about some airlines , yet we find people patronizing them, but hey! what can we do? In a country of the blind, the guy with one eye is the king. So here goes my story;

By now, I would consider myself a frequent flyer on Medview Airline, having flown with them on 4 different occassions within one year and mind you these four trips weren't one way trip, they were all return trip, so I would say I have sat on a Medview Aircraft 8 good times. Why do I always buy their ticket? Its simply because I thought they were better than other airlines flying from Lagos to my destination at different times, coupled with the fact that as a ticket junkie that I am, I have previously bought a Medview return ticket from Lagos to Abuja for 2 of my friends who later told me they enjoyed their flights and as such will never fly on Arik Air based of their individual experiences on Arik. Also Medview was cheaper(at that time) and always on time, So that was how my air-lashionship journey blossomed with Medview.

My first flight to Abuja in Dec 2015 on Medview was so perfect, right on schedule for departure and arrival, cabin crew were friendly and courteous, the Captain communicated at every point there was turbulence to assure us all was well, landing was great too, and not forgetting at that time, the ticket fee was about N30,000 cheaper than most airlines (Arik to be precise). From that moment on, if any one called me to say Abi, I need a ticket to A,B,C, the next thing you see in your mail is a Medview Ticket Confirmation, except they dont fly that route. Infact at a point I became a free of charge- word of mouth Medview Airline Ambassador, because I trusted them so much to deliver.

In February, after helping 2 family members to successfully purchase their tickets to different destinations on Medview, I was on the plane to Ghana, read about my Ghana trip here, if you missed it, I had no complain whatsoever on this trip, it was again, just like my first experience. Checked in online, getting the physical boarding pass at their Airport desk was a very easy process, no delays, everything was great as usual.

Fast forward to July, my third time on Medview, Lagos- Abuja was great, then time to come back to lagos was 4.45pm out of Abuja. After sitting in the hot Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for close to an hour, then this familiar voice from the speakers said "attention please, Medview Airline flight ABC is experiencing some delays, therefore the flight will be rescheduled to 6pm". Hell no! not my favourite airline, delayed ke? How can it be delayed and they are just communicating this to us at 5.30pm, anyways to cut the long story short, it was delayed on that day and we ended up leaving Abuja at the time announced instead of the actual 4.45pm we were supposed to leave.

On this day I was with my colleagues that I had earlier persuaded to fly Medview for the first time telling them that they wont experience any flight delays like they had previously complained about when it comes to other airlines. To my surprise, Arik Airline didnt have their usual delays on that day, and so right before our very eyes, their passengers boarded and took off, leaving me to take the blame for Medview from my colleagues. But because I never had this experience with them on previous flights, I was able to  convince my colleagues that it was a one off thing and It I knew it wouldnt happen again. (Atleast I saved my face).

Upon arrival in Lagos, I was facebooking on my way home from MMA 2 and stumbled on a post where a lady was complaining about her London-Lagos Medview experience, trust me, madam review, I quickly commented  to say, it must have been a one off thing that Medview is a very good airline blablabla. Then,I read other comments on her post and it wasn't so good as well, so I started wondering if my experience on Medview Airline so far has been a perculiar one, if others are saying something different about them, how come i'm one of the few that feels differently? I waived the post aside and concluded it must have been on their international route, after all Iberia Airline too showed me shege on an international route once (story for another day), so its no big deal. My people dont mind British Airways when they say, they own Iberia Airline oo,  the service they provide on both airlines are world apart. If you are a frequent flyer on BA and you think oh I can combine my avios using their cheaper alternative (Iberia) Oh my God! you are on your own, thankfully they dont fly from Nigeria anymore, so thats a blessing. Note to self -stick to BA next time :(

Anyways, don't let me digress. Back to my Medview Airline experience. So yesterday I was out on another official trip, and yes I flew Medview Airlines to Abuja on the 7am flight which was really cool, I slept all through because I was upset I got to sit just before the toilet door as the flight was full, where as people that checked in after me got to sit in front ooo, I guess the guy at the check in counter  didnt like my swollen-sleepy face thats why he thought sit 20A was beffitting. But wait a minute guys, we are really suffering in Lagos oo, how can Abuja be fine and so serene like that, yeah we know they are just a stone throw from boko haram and all that, but haba, that's a good place to be in Nigeria. The Federal Capital Territory, just has a way of making me forget all my worries for some hours, before my true life kicks in again!. Whoops! back to reality, On my return flight to Lagos from Abuja, Medview performed their trick again. Flight cancelled till 6.10pm. This got me really upset as I didnt have a back up plan for who to stay with my kids in Lagos from 7pm, since their Nanny had to close early to attend to her family too, and Hubby was stuck in Lagos traffic.Anyways,as per naija mum, plan B kicked in instantly!

At 6.10pm, we were called to start boarding, come and see rushing, this time I had managed to get a seat not too close to the toilet but way back at the same time, only to hear that it was free sitting, meaning too many passengers on ground, so first to enter na im go go Lagos. With my bag of Kilishi(dry juicy northern meat) and Dambu(No english translation, sorry :) in one hand and my bag in the other hand, I walked as fast as  I could, once I got off the shuttle bus to the plane,in order not to be left behind in Abuja. The great part was everyone got a place to sit at the end of the day, but this plane toured the airport for 30 mins before finally talking off. We got into Lagos about 8pm, instead of the initial 5.55pm schedule we were all booked for.

If its once, its a mistake, if its twice, then its not a coincidence. To keep that reputation, and to win more customers through me, I would say that Medview Airline needs to go back to the drawing board to see where they missed it. You can not afford to join them, you have to beat them, the competition is stiff and repeat customers like many of us, do not like time wasters. In addition it is sad that on those two occassions that I experienced delays, The Captain did not deem it fit to apologise for the delays. It has become a norm, and as such no longer considered a big deal despite  inconveniecing  people.

If a Medview staff/management is reading this, please do something about your frequent flight delays, I personally would like to fly on Medview again, because the aircraft is clean and the pilots know their job.I feel safe on a Medview flight, so kindly look into the root of these delays.

By the way, I heard Arik has improved too, I need to read more positive reviews about them first, then I may patronize them and start recommending them. Or what do you think?

  1. I actually love medview. Cheaper than the rest. Had a four hour delay in Yola once but the flights are always pleasant so I'm cool!

  2. Terrible, please avoid. This was the worst choice I ever made in my life, my flight was delayed for 15hrs, from Gatwick to Lagos, and I paid £931. We were sent out into the cold with no reason after we had boarded the flight and eaten the burnt jollof rice that was served, this was 1am in the morning. The flight was meant to leave by 9:30pm the previous day. By 7am in the morning, aggrieved passengers and hungry, wailing children were fed up and the airport authorities had to intervene to settle the situation. They gave us breakfast, can you imagine that!!! we finally left around 12pm. When we arrived Lagos, I had missed my connecting flight, so I had to pay for a hotel and reschedule my flight. The return trip was similar, flight was delayed for over 3 hours with no A.C, missed my bus in London and had to sleep in the airport and take the next available train. IN summary it was exhausting, British Airways was only £100 more than Medview, I ended up spending over £250 in extra expenses. Medview needs to compensate me, plus i’m pregnant.

    2. NEVER TAKE MED- VIEW AIRLINE!! I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Our luggage's were lost and out of my family's 8 luggage's only 2 arrived. I collected my last luggages
on my way back to London. Worst flight ever and very delayed. In Lagos, we were told that our flight would leave at 11:45 we arrived at the airport no information on when our flight would leave. We finally boarded the plane at 14 and left Lagos at 16 as there was a very big delay. As you can image it was very hot and the pilot refused to turn the AC on people were shouting, "i need water im going to die!" PLEASE i am urging you to never take this flight.

    Where do I begin ....

Worst airline in my entire life !!! Save the trouble. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. DELAYED FLIGHTS, missing luggages, no such thing as open return ticket more like when they are ready to take you at an extra cost !!!
Fighting, shouting, stressful customers. 0 star rating. Only thing was a safe landing to London Gatwick. I rebuke any plane crash but it is an airline we’re the worst can be expected. Wow medview u disappointed !! No communication with the passengers just delays upon delays. I stayed an extra week in Nigeria because you said they is no flights back to London. U ruined my trip. Nigeria was so amazing. But the (LOS) airport experience and also (LGW) airport experience was devastating!!!

I didn’t feel safe at all on the flight it was a scare after all the commotion. As soon as the flight took off prayer became from a sister in Christ it definitely calm us down in believing they is hope. And when we landed majority began to applause for safe landing. It’s a Cheap flight compared to the norm BA, Virgin, emirate,Air France, etc

Nigeria airport needs to fix up also!!! Seating at the gate E61 with no a/c no awareness of what is going on. Children, families and passages stressed out, hungry and tired. Promise/ paid the price for 32kg bags arrived at airport at informed otherwise now 27kg.

Medview a Nigerian airline where people choose to support Nigeria airline and save expensives but it’s a hell and drama plane. No movie entertainment, amala served on the flight as while as jollof n ofoda rice. Hmmm I never expected it!!!!

Fix up and get sharp. A good investment opportunity this airline needs significant help.

Don't get me wrong some people say they had a smooth journey one way but the other way was bad. Or either u experience two trip extremely bad. Or maybe a rarely Lucky and have two good trip there n back.

    God be with medview.

He and others are currently at the airport confused n being informed next flight to London is on Wednesday 18th ah but let's see how many out of the 600 passengers get a chance to get on that plane.

  7. Medview may have started well but I will never use the airline again. Late both ways on UK flight. I missed my booked transport from Lagos. The actual flight was not too bad but punctuality is essential to me. It is a pity I cannot recommend them to anyone. A European airline for me next trip despite the cost.

what if you composed a catchier post title? I ain't suggesting
your information is not good., however suppose you added a headline that
makes people desire more? I mean "Nigerian Airline Review- My Medview Airline Experience"
is kinda vanilla. You might look at Yahoo's home page and see how they create post titles to get viewers to click.
You might add a related video or a picture or two to grab people excited about everything've
