As a custom in Northern Nigeria, part of the activities that preceeds the wedding ceremony between the bride and groom is called the geisua(greetings), meaing the family of the groom goes to visit the family of the bride with lots and lots of gifts for the bride.


The Indimis are from the Kanuri speaking tribe in Maiduguri and it is customary for the kanuris to perform the geisua in grand style. I have witnessed many of such events by virtue of  schooling in Maiduguri and being friends with so many Kanuris including the Indimis and the Sheriff families respectively.

The kaya(meaning boxes of gift) can range from raw gold coins to raw diamonds, highest quality Atampa(Ankara), best of Swiss lace and the best of Selfridges and Harrods all packed nicely and delivered to the bride's family house, as a first step to the wedding proper.

For Zara Buhari, the Indimis went all out to impress their bride by delivering her kaya in customised Louis Vuitton Alzer Collection boxes with her initials (ZBI),These LV luggage box ranges between $8,900 to $12,000 depending on where you are buying them from and what size you are buying. It comes in Alzer 60,70,and 80. This is every girls dream in the North, and obviously the Indimis have set a new standard for Northern brides. Back then, while I was schooling in the North, the best Kaya used to come in nice Samsonite plastic boxes, you know those colourful eye popping boxes, but very expensive too.

With this we are keeping our fingers crossed for the Wedding Fathia, the Wushe Wushe and the Mothers Night, I can tell its going to be grand.
