Review: Sugarcane Restaurant Lagos

Over the weekend myself and a couple of old friends hung out to send off a close friend of ours to the abroad.
The venue of this send -off  hang out was some where new in Victoria Island Lagos that I had never heard of, so my Google Map App did a great job by locating the place some where on  Ologun Agbaje  off Adeola Odeku Victoria Island Lagos.

Everyone that lives in Lagos knows Saturday was a very wet day, so an evening hang out, had to be very special.
I arrived at this discreet but very cool venue called the Sugarcane. It was late in the evening so I'm not sure if the colour of the building was cream or white, but I noticed that they had a clean but small parking lot which could take between 8 to 16 cars maximum, It could be more if parking on the side of the road is allowed. There were these courteous security men, you know those one that like to help you with the door handle kind of security men, not just the madam park here ones, which I thought was very cool for a new hang out, you know some customer always come back for just one thing and not everything sometimes.


On this particular day, I guess there were different meet up at the Sugarcane, people were seated in groups so I figured its a new hang out and everyone wanted to experience it with their inner circle(if you know what I mean), so  I didn't quite get the normal setting of the place for this reason because tables were merged to accommodate each group's sitting arrangement.
On our table was a complementary cinnamon popcorn, which I didn't like that much cause of the strong taste the cinnamon leaves in your mouth, then came my glass of strawberry lemonade which I ordered for, and it took less than 15 mins to land in front of me. The  drink was sweet, there is an option for sweet or sour, but I went  for the sweet one which taste 2 steps better than the regular chapman( note that it isn't chapman though). By now all my friends had arrived and the first platter of finger food was served, although the finger food that included prawn in batter, chicken wings, puff-puff, and samosa was so nice but unfortunately, the second platter took like 25mins for it to be served, which made a lot of people not so pleased with their service.

Then it was time for everyone to order their meal, their menu to me was over packaged, the expectation from the way each food  is described would leave you salivating before the food comes through. We all had high expectation for the food as it was all our first time there, and it came highly recommended. By my calculation, the food started arriving like 30 mins after we placed our orders and honestly the presentation was everything. For me, I played it safe and went for a plate of peppered chicken with basmati fried rice with shrimps and some vegetables, two other people who had the same food  as mine agreed that the chicken was too tough, Others had their complains too, but those that had the Mongolian beef with noodles and rice liked their food better than every other person.

The bill isn't so pricey depending on who and where you are comparing them with, but with that price, they could work on their taste a little bit more just like they have done with the presentation.
For dessert, I had a slice of waffle with chocolate syrup and it was just as normal as my homemade waffle, nothing special.

Over all I will rate them a 6 out of 10 for ambience, the light was perfect for each music and made the mood really nice.
For service, I will rate them a 5, they need a lot of improvement in this regard.
For deco, I will rate them a 5, it is just a basic restaurant and bar decoration, the only thing that caught my fancy was the air-condition cage for lack of better description.
And finally for the food, I will rate them a 5 out of 10, there is till a lot of work to be done,
Would I recommend them? Oh yes why not, I just tried a few of so many things they have on their menu, others could be great, so I'll be visiting again.
