Lets Talk TV Soaps! Are you Watching The Governor On Ebony Life TV?

Oh Lawwwd, if you have not been watching "The Governor" on Ebony Life TV (dstv 165), then sorry to say you have been missing.

Although I didn't get to watch it from the first episode, I only started watching it about three episodes into it,but then, I still get the whole gist of the matter. I'll tell you a little bit about this soap and why I'm addicted to it.

The Governor is a soap about Savanah State, governed by a lady (Angela Ochello), who happens to be the daughter of a political big wig. Her appointment as a Governor, came as a result of the deadth of the former Governor while still in office, and by virtue of her father's political influence and power in the party, she was sworn in to take over as the first female Governor of  the state.

We all know being a Governor is a tough job any where in an African society, talk less of being a female in that field mostly dominated by men. Angela Ochello played by the beautiful, smart and classy Caroline Chikezie, is the Governor faced with so many challenges including an impeachment by her party members simply because she would not give in to their outrageous and insensitive demands from the state purse irrespective of the fact that her agenda is a positive one for the state in general. This has also threatened her father's(Played byTaiwo Obileye) position in the party.

In this soap, Angella Ochello is married to David Ochello played by Veteran Actor Bimbo Manuels, and they have two children together.

I love the fact that each individual in this soap has a major character to play. It shows the struggles we dont get to see  not only in the life of the Governor, but in the life of their children and family as well. The kids part in the soap, can e be adapted into another soap on its own, every teen can relate to what is going on in the life of the Governor's children.

How can I talk about The Governor, and not mention Henry? It is impossible. Henry played by Lord Frank (the name might not ring a bell, but google him and his face will ring a thousand bells), is the handsome man, with the rich voice attached to The Governor as her Chief-Of-Staff. He plays his role so well, you would begin to think, he has been in that position before in real life.

I loved the choice of houses and set props used in this soap, and the fact that all the Actors dressed appropriately to fit their roles, no loud makeup on the females, and infact in some cases no make up at all when there is no need for it. Unlike some other soap and movies(naija) where you see fully dressed women with high heels in the house lounging and makeup first thing in the morning straight out of bed. Although Angella Ochello's wadrobe can be stepped up a little bit more, meaning, she should play with local fabrics designed into corporate and traditional styles, and the hair style can also be changed to give her a more matured look.Although all that depends on if she survives the upcoming impeachment in the next episode. By the way, I'm hitching to watch the next episode.

I will advice that this Soap is not for everyone, it is for a matured mind who knows how to relax and watch a good TV Soap, this Soap takes you back to the days of Checkmate. So if you belong to the new Nollywood that likes movies without depth and direction, then you may need to pass on The Governor, but if you are a sucker for great TV entertainment, then this is for you.

So tell me have you been watching The Governor? Or am I the only one watching it? Who are your favorite acts in this Soap? I've got three, though for different reasons and in this order, Henry, Angela and Francis. Over to you guys!

Have a great weekend!
