Family Oriented Clubs in Lagos + Read why you should either belong to Lagos Country Club or Ikoyi Club.

There is no doubt that Lagos is a Metropolitan city in Nigeria with all the niceties, richness and beautiful things in life. In modern times, family oriented recreational and social clubs and hangouts have been either converted to offices or other edifice or probably just an empty deserted once upon a time premise.
The influx of social clubs have taken over the new Lagos, places like Victoria Island and Ikoyi have large numbers of clubs and bars which are mainly places for fun and social networking for adults alone. Just as it is important for adults and kids to have places  to go and have age appropriate fun, It is very vital that we don't loose our sense of togetherness as families and as such social places that can accommodate parents and their kids is  not at the percentage it should be in Lagos considering the population of families that live in this town.

There are two family oriented clubs that I have known over the years, and they  still stand out and have stood out since 1938 and 1949 respectively, providing families with relaxing and comforting atmosphere packed full with different activities which every family member can engage in. These exquisite and exclusive family clubs are the Ikoyi Club and Lagos Country Club.

Ikoyi Club
As a proud member of this prestigious club, let me tell you why your family should belong here. Please note, this is not a sponsored post neither is it a marketing post. This post is purely from the heart of a consumer getting value for services being paid for. As you know membership of most clubs in its caliber any where in the world, comes at a membership fee.

As I mentioned earlier, Ikoyi Club, was established in 1938, the club is a product of two clubs, the European Club and the Lagos Golf Club. Which at that time had ''European Only"" Members, but that has changed  now, with many races and families being members of the club enjoying the big expanse of land with its first class facilities and services.
Ikoyi Club boast of  Indoor and Outdoor amenities there is to offer. One major attraction is the Ikoyi Club Golf Course  which is highly rated  in Nigeria, and if you want to meet with the crème-de-la-crème in golfing or in the society, then you should pay a visit to Ikoyi Club to see these beautiful golfers who cut across the legal age bracket.

Another major attraction at the Ikoyi Club is the Swimming Section, at the pool side, families make new friends, and they have quite a number of life guards , trainers on stand-by to help teach the parents and the kids swimming lessons. The swimming pool section has a an Indoor Bar for privacy and an Open Bar that caters to the young and old, the Outdoor bar over looks the 2 big swimming pools in addition to the 2 children swimming pool.
Other sections at the Ikoyi Club includes, Tennis, Squash,Badminton,Snooker/Billards, TableTennis Sections respectively, in addition to other games. With each section having its own bar,  drinks are sold at very reasonable prices. The Squash and Tennis Sections both have fully equipped Gyms with professional trainers, so you wouldn't have an excuse not to keep fit.
The Children can also have fun at the Children's Play Ground, although the Playground needs an upgrade at the moment, and I hope that the great team at Ikoyi Club can look into this while the renovation of the swimming pool area and car park area is still on-going.
Before I forget, they have mouth watering dishes at the club, my best yet is the Fried Yam and Chicken with Sauce. This particular Fried Yam is in a league of its own,no body does it better than Ikoyi Club. The good thing is they have a variety of sides that can go with the yam. You can have it with Snail, Shrimps, or Fish as well. And oh one more thing, the Ram Suya and Liver Suya is to die for, you all need to try it when you are there. Although the service at the Suya spot could be better, but there is no one to blame for this, as everyone in the club never gets enough of the Suya.
The ever famous Ikoyi Club Sandwich is still very  available at the club, but the truth is I rarely have it these days because there are just too many yummier food options to choose from. If you haven't been to the club before, make sure you try the Club Sandwich when you are there, its one of the things Ikoyi Club is famous for in my generation.
The best part of Ikoyi Club is that you meet different generation of people when you are there, From the Grand Parents, to The Youths, Teenagers and Children, it is the ideal family club for meeting and mingling with people from every sphere of life. For young parent like me, Ikoyi Club gives me the opportunity to network with like minded people and also meet people who have excelled in one field or the other.

Lagos Country Club(LCC)
Just like Ikoyi Club, I have been a member of this premier club(LCC), for as long as I have known myself. As a little girl I can remember our weekend wasn't complete without a visit to Lagos Country Club. One thing that still takes me to the club is their Suya, honestly no where else in Lagos has a better Suya, my kids and everyone around me loves their Suya and their Yaji(suya pepper) is just the best.
LCC was established in 1949, The Club is sited on 5 acres of land, along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Ikeja Lagos, If you live on the mainland, then you will be familiar with the location of the club. Although  not as big and as classy as it used to be back then, LCC  is very much regarded as one of the best family club we have in Lagos. This is so because majority of people who lived on the mainland while growing up, have relocated to areas on the Island, and as such reduced the population of young people at LCC.
Families at LCC have access to so many exciting and fun activities, Sections at the club includes, Badminton, Darts, Scrabble, Snooker/Billiards, Squash, Swimming Pool, Table Tennis, Taekwando, Tennis and a host of other games.
If you are someone like me who love to listen and laugh at adult jokes, then table Tennis Section is for you. They have a lot of young, vibrant and successful men and women in the Squash and Badminton Sections as well.
The Taekwando Section is one section that every kid loves, while parents are busy unwinding in their various sections, the kids can learn some martial arts in the Taekwando Section.

The Swimming Pool at LCC is another place for family bonding, the kids get to make friends in their pool while mummies and daddies can have their own time too at the adult pool. Although there are life guards constantly at the pool side, but parents can also keep an eye on their kids in the children's pool from the Adults pool, since both pools are not far from each other.
In my opinion, the Children Playground here also needs to be improved upon, infact it needs a total makeover, because the equipments in that playground has been there for too long and has experienced wear and tear, so therefore I humbly call on the management to look into this. LCC also has an in-house GYM for adults.
They have so many mouth watering Nigerian dishes at this club, so if you are that person that loves Nigerian meals, then you should try their Tuwo,Fresh fish pepper soup or their Ofada rice, when next you visit LCC.
Social Networking at LCC is another plus to the club as you also meet with different generation of people you get to learn and make business contact from/with.

For those that can't read through the long post, the summary is that at both clubs, every family member has an activity to partake in, to let off the steam of our busy Lagos lifes. They are good places with family recreation in mind, and the quality of service delivered in both clubs are top notch. From the entrance of both clubs, you are welcomed by civill, energetic, pleasant and very hardworking men and women, up to the service men and others.
Both clubs gives you a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation in one place that you can't find in other places in Lagos.

For more information on how to become a member of both clubs, please visit their website at LCC or facebook page Ikoyi Club to learn more.
